Camren Fischer made Arkansas history when he became the four-time winner of the Gatorade Runner of the year — the most in state history. The highly motivated bulldog has not been defeated by an Arkansas runner for three years, was the first Arkansas runner to break 15 minutes in a 5K and the first to qualify for the Foot Locker National Cross Country Meet. Winning the Class 6A state cross country championship with a time of 16:19.90, Fischer was also outstanding in track and field, earning individual state titles in the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter events. His time of 9:23.58 in the 3,200-meter race set a state record. He qualified for and ran in both the Nike and Foot Locker cross-country nationals two years in a row, won the Chile Pepper Cross Country meet twice and took second place at the Great American Distance Festival with a time of 14:50.
